CommentIt will soon be soup weather again, too, Jan. It has cooled off a lot today. I made salsa today instead of Italian sauce, and it tastes pretty good, but I think I could have put in a couple more hot peppers. It is verging on "mild" and I'd like a little spicier sauce. And no, I don't work too hard! I leave plenty of time to read, at least a couple of hours every day. That's what I am going to do right now.

CommentYou need a 'soup kettle' in your freezer for the bits of tomatoes being left on the plate. I've been putting the little bits of left overs in the freezer, corn, beans, peas, celery, onions, rice, spaghetti, and when the container is full (about a kool whip container size) I put it in the crockpot with beef or chicken broth and a bit of browned burger or left over chicken and it makes wonderful soup. Every batch is different! It has been years since I made the italian tomato sauce you mentioned in your newspaper artice this week. But when I did make it we used tons of it. You work too hard!

CommentIt's been a busy summer that is quickly moving toward an equally busy fall. The garden is producing--tomatoes are at their peak--the Farmers' Market is attracting customers and visitors from all over the area--the Friday baking at the farm house seems to be a success. I work every chance I get on felting for mittens and baby shoes. Now, there is new work to do as the season changes. Pulling weeds has given way to canning, freezing, root cellaring, and drying, and it is time to fill the wood shed for winter. And, this year, we are also concerned with an event a little further on in the fall. We are volunteering to help garner votes for Barack Obama for President of the United States. After eight years of misdirection, callous disregard for the good of the common person and also for world opinion, we need an intelligent, erudite, caring person in the White House. We have a chance to elect a smart, compassionate man to the highest office in our country, and we feel that it is the duty of all of us to do what we can to bring about his election. So, it will be a fall packed with activity and hope.

CommentGood to see you, too! Glad you liked the bread. I forgot to take a loaf out of the freezer this morning, so we ate our pasta without bread. Probably could have borrowed a slice from you? By the way, the newsletter on our web site changes every week, usually at some point on each Monday.

CommentHi Betsy! We have enjoyed exploring your website and will become regular visitors. It was great seeing you and Runo at the Farmer's Market yesterday. After we came home we made a delicious omelet with the eggs and all the great veggies we bought there. Your French bread is awesome! Great texture and taste. I think I could get addicted to it. See you on Saturday mornings! Mike and Judy
