CommentWe've really had some fine cross crountry skiing weather this month. We have taken nearly daily tours with all this good base and powder. It has made a good beginning to the winter.

CommentIt's a nice morning with frosty grass and patches of snow in attractive and artistic designs. I have finished the churning and am making feta cheese. Next on the agenda is working on some felt orders and then, after dinner at noon, our women's reading group at the local library. That's a treat all of us look forward to. We are always eager to see what others have been reading.

CommentIt is a chilly, blustery day--not at all unpleasant this time of year. Bowls of hot soup warmed us up, and there is a good fire in the basement stove. This afternoon will be a good time to sit in the warm cabin and work on some felt mittens. First, though, I will have to evict Raymond the cat from the chair with the best light--and the most comfortable chair it is. Raymond knows that, too.

CommentHi Betsy, I have just been looking over your web site and think you should have a larger photo of your amazing mittens that will do them justice. What do you think? I will talk to your web master. Mitzi

CommentThe old white faced cow had a calf this morning, the last of the season. She had a little white faced heifer calf down in the middle of the dry swamp. The cow picked a good place--lots of dry grass and protection from wind and interference of other animals. The sun is shining now, and there is lamb stew on the stove, a frosted sweet cream cake on the cupboard, and tomatoes from the greenhouse ready for slicing. The fellows will soon be coming from the bee yard for dinner. Fly was skunked a little this morning. It was just before daylight, and Nellie had gone to the barn with Runo. I heard Fly barking and looked out to see her sparring with a small animal that had white on it. I hurried to the door and managed to call her off, but not before I sensed the distinctive odor of skunk. Fly had been too quick for the skunk, though, and had not sustained a good "hit." I think she got some on her neck. I don't mind the smell of skunk, so it hasn't concerned me much. Probably, Fly will have to spend a little time in the milk house getting a bath this evening.
