CommentRain and wind have dominated the weather the past couple of days. We need plenty of moisture to fill the swamps after the dry summer. It is turning colder today, too, and the first fire in the basement stove feels good. Sheep shearing school this past weekend went well. We hope the participants feel this way, too. Master blade shearer Kevin Ford, who taught the workshop, thought that this batch of new shearers showed some potential.

CommentYou may have had trouble coming up with an idea to write about for this week's essay...but it was far from boring and brought back good memories. Haven't thought about the glue with the funny top in years. Just placed a yarn order on line that should keep me busy most of the winter...socks! I hope I can find someone who will wear them I'm hoping my daughters will. Janet

CommentNice to see you folks too, Micki. October the first dawned gray and wet--not enough rain to be of much value, but it does seem like fall. And, it is cool enough to have a fire in the cookstove, so I can bake my Swedish rye round breads in the wood oven--a big improvement over the summer electrically powered appliance. "My" time of year is about here. From now until the first of March, especially if we have a nice, solid winter, you won't find me complaining.

CommentHi Betsy and Runo, Jerry & I enjoyed our little visit with you on Saturday, Sept. 29th at the Farmer's Market. Your candles are nicely dipped, and the baby shoes, and mittens are a delight.I bet the socks are really warm, too. Your handmade items are a pleasure to see. Micki & Jerry Smith

CommentIt feels like fall today, and the trees are showing a bit of color here and there. The Farmers' Market was a little slow today--probably because of the cold breeze and, later in the morning, a rain shower or two. But, many people were out and about with jackets on instead of summer clothes, and I dug out my winter barn jacket before we left home. The best time of the year--as far as I am concerned--is at hand, and I'll be satisfied until the first of March or so, when mud season begins. At least, we hope for a good winter, though the global climate change makes everything uncertain these days. Brian had nice plums at the market today, so I made plum jam when we got home and unpacked. Three butter churnings later left me with dishes to wash, but things are settling down in the kitchen now, and I'm looking forward to a pleasant evening.
