CommentDearest Cousins Runo and Betsy!! A little more than two years ago and after my return from Poland, Dad and I came to the Farm. We were in the neighborhood because Dad was going to the Mayo Clinic. As we drove on 21 mile road, we could find no one home. Dad had the good idea to stop by the Sap House and we found you all! Runo offered us some cups of warm and clear sap and we watched the filtering out of "sand" from the syrup. The drink and comapany were delicious. Maybe you have heard, but if not, we have a new addition to the Erickson Clan. Star gave birth to a baby girl July 21 at 12:18pm. Her name is Maple and I believe this is a good Erickson family name. From hearing stories from Dad about the "Sap Woods" to this most recent memory at the Sap House, I have come to believe, we Ericksons have maple syrup running through our veins. Much love, Roland, Star, and Maple

CommentThat sounds great. I love those canned blueberries. I have been busy with tomatoes, too, and we just picked enough for another batch. They are all in the greenhouse this year, and we water in there, so they are doing okay in spite of the dry, dry weather. I did wash the first six pairs of socks--no dye in these--and they turned out fluffy and soft. You should come up and knit with us on some Wednesday. We have lots of fun.

CommentAnd now we have 7 pints of blueberries that I picked myself this morning and canned by two p.m. They look delicious! I've decided to continue to freeze my stewed tomatoes after advice from Nancy and looking on line. I don't have a pressure cooker anymore and the freezing is easier when you don't have alot of produce (tomatoes) at one time.

CommentSounds like you will have some good eating this next winter. I broke a can of string beans in the canner yesterday. I don't like that at all. We were at the Farmers' Market today. We sold mostly garlic and honey--what a combination, eh?--but also some woolen goods. But, it is fun to see the people moving around this market in a small town carrying their bags of produce and other stuff from the farmers' stalls. I'm sure lots of the customers are going to enjoy better food than they have been accustomed to. You've always had good food, so your peaches will just be something extra.
