CommentI can see why people buy peaches packaged in Thailand. Just kidding! We just did 8 quarts..one got away from us by breaking in the canner. I think the canning methods have been forgotten a bit and the syrup wasn't hot enough. So for our efforts we have peaches! Bought seconds at farmer's market because I wanted to do them NOW and not wait for them to ripen a few at a time. We are so inspired we might do some blueberries ( I don't like them frozen except in cobbler or muffins) seeing how the canner in charge miscalculated the amount of syrup needed and we have lots left. Also bought some frozen, pitted tart cherries at the farmer's market and so we'll have 3 pies this winter. I thought 3.50 a bag (2#) was a fair price..I didn't pick them or pit them :>). Feel like Mother Earth. Janet

CommentWe went to Michael Moore's movie Sicko today. We can't help but wonder when our fellow Americans will finally decide to vote in their own interest and in the interest of the rest of the residents of this country and demand universal health care of the same quality that is expected in other countries. Cheers for Michael Moore.

CommentOver seventy people were here this past Thursday evening for the Garden Walk sponsored by the Leroy Farmers' Market and MSU Extension. We gave a little presentation describing our organic and sustainable practices, and Jerry Lindquist, the Extension Director in our county told the group about resources available through that office. Then, people were free to wander through the garden and ask questions about the crops, the greenhouse construction, and the garden in general. And--the cookies all disappeared.

CommentRight you are, Jan. Can you believe it? And sold right there in peach country. It's hard to believe that this is a society that prizes efficiency. What a waste!

CommentAfter I opened a plastic jar of Dole sliced peaches that cost about $1.75 on sale and a treat for us from the ones in the tin cans..(I quit canning years ago), and discovered after reading the label that the peaches came from the USA but were packed in Thailand I think I get it!!!! Will buy my peaches at the local farmer's market, scrouge up a few old jars and will can mine own this year!!! Can you imagine peaches being shipped away, canned or whatever they did to them, and then shipped back????? What are we thinking???
