CommentAT last! you're back to writing. I don't even care that it is about potatoes...one of my less favorite foods (not enough sugar ;>) ) it is just good to know you're back ! We are going to Alaska the end of the month so our thoughts seem to be on that more than anything. EArl is into day lily gardening this year along with his very small vegetable garden. We have had green beans until we are ready to share them. Nine hills is all he put in. More than enough! And I made some bread and butter pickles yesterday from the garden crop. I only made 1/2 a batch as I had to take the recipe off the internet (wonderful tool) as I couldn't find my mother's recipe. This one is good and I'll make more. I gave the ones I made to Kathy as she stood here droolin'.

CommentHaying season finished up with a fine week, cool nights and breezy, sunny days. There will be plenty of feed to see the livestock through the winter. Now, we have to concentrate on the garden so we, too, will have enough to sustain us through the cold months. With morning temperatures in the thirties a few days this past week, winter is never far from our thoughts.

CommentHi Betsy and Runo, Enjoy your newsletters but I can imagine how busy you are now that haying and gardening are in full swing. Are you also doing the LeRoy Farmers' Market? Saturdays, right? I am visiting Mom each week and we would like to see you both one of these days...so maybe in LeRoy. All is fine in Traverse City. Cool today, but sunny, and we have our sailboat in East Bay, and our kayaks too. When we get the chance, we enjoy just being on the water. Take care....Cheryl

CommentRainy and cool here in Michigan. We managed to get some hay into the barn during the last warm, dry spell, but now we are waiting for haying weather again. We won't complain about the rain, either, though. Our part of Mother Earth is soaking it up. Gardens are growing in spite of the generally cool temperatures, and lambs and calves are happy with their mothers on plenty of good pasture. My newsletter essays will hopefully return soon. Some technical difficulties. We will keep in touch with all of you who look at our web site.
