Interesting that two men who had a profound influence on the world and its future were born on the same day 200 years ago. We celebrate the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Charles Darwin today.

What a wonderful day for all of us. We watched the Presidential Inauguration with good friends and were inspired by the resolve and determination of President Obama, and by his compassion and intelligence. The crowds in Washington were evidence of the nation's hope for the future, in spite of serious problems in the country and all over the world. We flew our American flag today, and it waved above our frigid but sunny landscape. This was a day when we could take pride in our choice of President and have optimism for the future.

There's enough new snow now to make cross country skiing good again. We took a little moonlight tour last night, but will go out this afternoon to look the country over again. Chicken and wild rice (thanks to my cousin, Karen) soup is on the cook stove waiting for us to set the table and bring out the bread and butter. Good winter eating from the freezer and fruit cellar.
